What Northeastern University – New York City students need to know about moving in the Big Apple
The 55th Street Residence Hall will be home to around 500 first-year, transfer or continuing students of Northeastern University – New York City for the fall 2026 semester.
Move-in is almost here for hundreds of Northeastern University students learning in the Big Apple.
The 55th Street Residence Hall will be home to around 500 first-year, transfer or continuing students of Northeastern University – New York City. Following the merger this summer with Marymount Manhattan College, this will be the first fall semester for the 14th campus in Northeastern’s global university system.
From important dates to what to leave at home, here’s what students coming to Northeastern’s NYC campus should know.
When are students moving in?
New and transfer students will move into the 55th Street Residence Hall on Saturday, Aug. 29. For continuing students, move-in will take place over Labor Day weekend on Saturday, Sept. 5 and Sunday, Sept. 6.
The 327 students who are NYC Scholars will move into FOUND Study-Turtle Bay on Saturday, Aug. 29 and Sunday, Aug. 30. More information can be found here.
What is my specific move-in day and where is my residency hall?
Each student will have a date and time assigned to them. This information and their housing assignment will have been sent to their email.
Move-in times are between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. and assigned by last name.

What is provided?
Students will be provided with a bed with a twin XL mattress, desk, desk chair, dresser and a closet or wardrobe. Many rooms will have lofted or bunked beds.
The apartment common areas will also have a kitchen with a full-size refrigerator and freezer, microwave, stovetop burners, table and chairs.
What to bring?
Students should bring bathroom supplies, including hooks and shower curtains for the showers, as these items will not be provided. Decorations are allowed, with hanging items to be displayed using sticky tack or painter’s tape. As for permitted furniture, students can bring metal or plastic shelves no larger than 4 feet tall, plastic storage bins, new rugs or carpets and office or rolling chairs.
What not to bring?
Leave your bean bags at home. No upholstered, cushioned or wooden furniture are allowed. Residential staff include a list of other items to leave at home in the move-in guide that was provided to each student. Those items include sun lamps, candles, candle warmers, flushable wipes, cloth tapestry, space heaters and mini-fridges.
What else do you need to know?
The move-in car line will follow the right-hand side of East 55th Street, back out to 2nd Avenue and then onto East 56th Street. The line can be accessed by driving north on 3rd Avenue and turning right onto East 56th Street.
Only begin unloading the car when a resident assistant arrives with large bins. Students need a valid government ID to check in. Students are limited to two move-in helpers, which includes minors or siblings.

After move-in, parking garages available near the 55th Street Residence Hall include 919 Third Parking on East 55th Street, MPG Parking on East 56th Street, Select Garages on East 54th Street and The Bristol Garage on East 56th Street. The university will not pay for the cost of parking or parking ticket during move-in. Street parking is also available, but be aware of the rules listed on parking signs.
There will be a walk-up line for those arriving by ride-share, taxi or train.
The 55th Street Residence Hall has 32 floors.
