“Electrical and computer engineering professor Ravinder Dahiya was awarded a $230,000 NSF Eager grant for ‘Flexible and Compressible e-Skin Integrated With Soft Magnetic Coil Based Ultra-Thin Actuator and Touch Sensor for Robotics Applications.'”
From the abstract: “Replication of Natural Skin characteristics is critically important for smooth operations of Robots. … E-Skin variants thus far have neglected the fact that natural skin has receptors/sensors embedded in soft tissues … coupled with muscles. … To address this longstanding shortcoming … this project will evaluate the feasibility of a soft and compressible e-Skin that will have touch sensor integrated with soft electromagnetic coil-based flexible ultra-thin actuator.”
