  • Northeastern student’s motivation-focused startup became profitable in 2 weeks

    Boston Business Journal - 03/04/2014

Lars King’s startup focuses on collecting the best online videos to inspire people to be more motivated — a quality he never really lacked himself, at least not when it came to making money.

King, a sophomore at Northeastern University, started his entrepreneurial career at age 12 selling herbs from his parents’ garden to neighbors. Later, he began mowing lawns and shoveling snow from driveways.

His most recent entrepreneurial idea came about last December, when he locked himself in a room for a week to scour the Web for the best online motivational videos for his startup, Boston-based Year of Motivation.

The website, which launched Jan. 1, offers users one hand-picked, three- to five-minute motivational video every day for a year, for $27.

King, who is majoring in business with concentrations in entrepreneurship and marketing, invested about $200 in his startup, which went mostly toward web hosting and email marketing software.
