    Boston Globe - 09/30/2014

Two Massachusetts colleges were awarded more than $3 million each Tuesday in federal grants aimed at helping colleges develop new approaches to increase their value, affordability, and completion rates. Northeastern University was awarded $3.9 million and Bay Path University in Longmeadow $3.5 million through the First in the World grant program, according to the US Department of Education. The grant competition received nearly 500 applicants, and only 24 colleges and universities were selected. Northeastern said it plans to use the grant to increase enrollment and completion in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics and to bolster online learning programs for minority students in those fields. Bay Path University was awarded its grant to support innovative online programming for adult women, according to the university.
