  • Flynn: Immigrants vital to Boston’s history

    Boston Herald - 03/12/2017

It’s no secret that listening to lectures about the history of Boston is one of my favorite pastimes. That’s why it was such a treat to attend a recent lecture at the Massachusetts Historical Society in the Fenway led by Northeastern University Professor William M. Fowler, who detailed the courageous and challenging history of the early Irish who came to the city.

He spoke not only of the discrimination and bias they faced when they stepped off the boats, but how through hard work, determination and education, they established themselves as decorated war heroes, celebrated writers and world-renowned doctors.
