  • Doing the gun lobby’s bidding

    U.S. News & World Report - 12/05/2017

In their effort to give the gun lobby its number one priority these lawmakers plan to hold the Fix NICS Act of 2017 hostage, binding the passage of a law that is designed to save lives with one that most scholars and law enforcement experts believe will have just the opposite effect. While the Fix NICS Act is an important step in the right direction, it is a small improvement that is now being used to distract the public from a very dangerous step in the wrong direction. Indeed, binding these two bills together is a cynical attempt to provide cover for the fact that, even as Americans are still reeling from three horrific mass shootings, House members are doing the gun lobby’s bidding. The trade-off is not worth it.
