  • Discipline for Boston police officers frequently overturned

    WCVB TV - 02/18/2016

5 Investigates teamed up with Northeastern University School of Journalism and made a disturbing discovery about Boston police officers the department wants to suspend or fire.

The investigation reveals the majority of discipline that goes to arbitration is overturned, which Boston Police Commissioner William Evans said is putting problem officers back on the force.

Evans said the system for disciplining the more than 2,000 officers on his force which allows officers to appeal their punishment to an arbitrator, is broken.

“I don’t think anyone knows how important it is, given what’s going on around the country, to weed out bad apples,” Evans said.
