Northeastern hosted senior leaders and educators from higher education institutions in the United States and India earlier this week to foster new collaborations and discuss best practices and market needs in both countries.

The event was part of the BMM Indo-US Educators Summit 2013, which was held July 5-9 at Northeastern and in Providence, R.I. The conference drew more than 3,000 delegates and was co-organized by the Bruhan Maharashtra Mandal, an organization representing the academic and commercial interests of the Maharashtra region of western India.

On Monday and Tuesday, Northeastern hosted several lectures and workshops focusing on the university’s Global Health Initiative; global leadership in experiential education; professional science masters programs; and many other areas of research and scholarship. Visitors also toured Northeastern’s research centers.

Global innovation and higher education strategies served as the theme for the two days of programming at Northeastern, which also included a plenary lecture by Marinda Wu, president of the American Chemical Society. Graham Jones, chair of the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology, and Mukund Chorghade, an adjunct professor of chemistry, co-organized Northeastern’s programming for the conference.

Jones said the collaborative opportunities explored and developed at the summit would help Northeastern continue advancing its global initiatives and strengthen its industry relationships in India. A number of modalities through which Indian corporations and universities could engage with Northeastern were also outlined, including co-op placements, faculty exchanges, and executive education.
