A team of Northeastern students placed first in the 31st annual National University Model Arab League Conference in Washington, D.C. last month, besting delegations from two dozen colleges and universities in Canada, Egypt, and the United States.
Northeastern’s International Relations Council (IRC) recently sent a delegation to the Southeast Regional Model Arab League competition to represent Syria. The Northeastern delegation took a nontraditional approach, choosing to attend as the Syrian National Council, which is leading the uprising against the government of Bashar al-Assad. We asked IRC president Lara Cole to explain the club’s approach to the competition, in which Northeastern tied for first place.
