“I think the hearings largely serve a political purpose, keeping this issue at the forefront of the public’s mind heading into the fall and the campaign season,” said Daniel Medwed, who followed the Mueller inquiry as a professor of criminal law and procedure at Northeastern University.

“It’s the peak of hypocrisy and absurdity,” Beletsky, a professor of law at Northeastern University tells NPR.

“A medical model implies a very discrete product with specific doses, and it would be very tightly controlled,” said Leo Beletsky, a professor of law and health sciences at Northeastern University. 

Two researchers from Harvard and Northeastern universities raised alarms last year about inequities in Boston’s school assignment system. After examining late registrations, the researchers concluded “nearly half of black kindergartners miss the first registration deadline, a rate almost three times higher than their white peers, consigning them to the least preferred schools.”

Some schools do this better than others; Northeastern University offers the most comprehensive co-op program of any American institution.

In a 2008 paper published in the American Journal of Health, Leo Beletsky, a public health law professor at Northeastern University, and Burris wrote that federal authorities could use a federal law known as the “Crack House Statute” to go after cities and states that permit safe injection sites. 

Last June, researchers at Northeastern University in the US state of Massachusetts tested 17,000 mobile apps from various Android app stores around the world.

Northeastern University School of Law Professor Daniel Medwed said Judge Sinnott’s overall hardball tack may stem from a resistance to Rollins, who is in her first year as the district attorney for Boston and a few neighboring communities and campaigned on a promise not to prosecute certain offenses, drawing considerable pushback from police unions.

A 2017 study by Harvard and Northeastern universities found that one in five American gun owners got their firearm without undergoing a background check. The same study found 22 percent of 4,000 adults surveyed who owned guns hadn’t undergone a background check.

As Lisa Feldman Barrett, a neuroscientist and Northeastern University distinguished professor, explains, “Brains did not evolve to think or feel. Brains evolved to regulate bodies.”

Many patients in rehab, for example, don’t always perform exercises as frequently or with the intensity that’s prescribed, says Danielle Levac, assistant professor in the department of physical therapy, movement and rehabilitation sciences at Northeastern University and director of the rehabilitation games and virtual reality lab.

The Associated Press, which keeps its own database with USA Today and Northeastern University, only counts “killings involving four or more fatalities, not including the killer.” By that definition, there have been 26 shootings this year.
