I put this question to Northeastern University Professor James Alan Fox, who has studied mass shootings and workplace violence since the early 1980s. He said shooting trends are more like a “general contagion,” in that once they get publicized, a small group of people identify with the shooters and replicate their actions.

A Maine-based philanthropic fund has donated $100 million to the new Portland campus of Northeastern University to attract and retain talent in the state and target women, veterans and people of color, according to the university.

Jack McDevitt, a Northeastern University criminology professor who evaluated Boston’s body camera pilot in 2018, said it “strains credulity” that an officer wouldn’t wear or turn on their camera in a high-risk call.

An analysis by Northeastern University researchers and colleagues finds that in crowded cities — like Boston — coronavirus epidemics not only grow bigger,  they also tend to last longer.
