Dear Northeastern University Community,

We are writing with an important update to COVID-19 testing protocols on our U.S. campuses. As always, our decisions are guided by science and informed by the most relevant data available.

The university will transition from required weekly surveillance testing to optional weekly testing for asymptomatic individuals, effective Monday, February 28th. Testing will continue to be required for those experiencing symptoms. The daily wellness check will no longer be required, except when checking in for a test.Household test kits will also continue to be made available to the community. As part of this shift in policy, the university will discontinue its COVID-19 dashboard effective February 28th.

In addition, we are currently evaluating masking requirements at all of our campus locations. Decisions to lift indoor mask requirements are informed by local public health guidelines. The City of Boston has yet to lift its indoor mask requirements. At some of our other campus locations, including Nahant, Burlington, London, Portland and the San Francisco Bay Area, indoor mask requirements have already been lifted, making indoor mask-wearing optional at those sites.

We will continue to monitor developments and adapt our approach as needed. From the very beginning of the pandemic, our community of faculty, staff, students, and others joined together to become a model of flexibility, resilience, and mutual support. We want to thank each and everyone of you for your hard work and agility that has helped us collectively maintain a successful and thriving teaching and research enterprise.
