Bay Area Campus Response to COVID-19

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff:

I am writing to provide you with an important notice of change to San Francisco and Silicon Valley campus operations in response to the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

Following guidance and recommendations informed by the San Francisco Department of Public Health and the Santa Clara County Department of Public Health, and to ensure educational continuity, Northeastern is making the following operational changes to the San Francisco and Silicon Valley campuses, effective Monday, March 9, 2020:

• All on-site courses will move to remote or online learning formats. Faculty members will contact students with directions on how to access remote or online course delivery.
• The San Francisco and Silicon Valley campuses remain open for use by students and faculty—with several modifications:
  • Students, Faculty, and Staff who are at higher risk of severe illness should stay home and away from large groups. People at higher risk include:
    • People 60 and older;
    • People with underlying health conditions including heart disease, lung disease, kidney disease, cancer, or diabetes;
    • People who have weakened immune systems; and
    • People who are pregnant.
  • Faculty and staff who are considered higher risk are authorized to work at home.
    Operations staff who are not deemed high risk are expected to work regular schedules on campus. Anyone with questions about their ability to work remotely should consult with their manager.

The university remains in close communication with public health agencies and experts. As conditions change and new public health agency guidance is issued, we will update the campus community accordingly.

In the meantime, I encourage you to continue to check the university’s COVID-19 website for general health information and changes to university programs and policies.
