Here are the ones you won’t want to miss. The Future of… — This presidential speaker series hosted by President Joseph Aoun explores what’s on the horizon for topics that shape our lives, such as food, dating, media, and transportation. Held throughout the semester, the series offers opportunities for members of the Northeastern community to hear conversations between President Aoun and innovators in their respective fields. The series kicks off Tuesday, Sept. 20 with The Future of Transportation, a conversation with Northeastern alumnus and Lyft Chief Technology Officer Chris Lambert. The event will be held at 4 p.m. in the event space on the 17th floor of East Village. The series continues on Friday, Nov. 18, with The Future of Eating. Other discussions and lectures will be held throughout the semester as well. Don’t miss: The Entrepreneurs Club Tuesday Speaker Series brings successful CEOs and startup founders to campus to share their insights weekly. The club will host Bureo Skateboards co-founder and Northeastern alumnus Ben Kneppers, E’07, on Tuesday, Sept. 20, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Conflict. Civility. Respect. Peace: Northeastern Reflects — This educational series focuses on civic sustainability. On Wednesday, Sept. 21, panelists representing a wide array of disciplines will discuss the topic: “What is America? Globalization and the New Age of Migration.” The event, which is part of the university’s Open Classroom series this semester, will be held at 6 p.m. in West Village F. Innovation Imperative: Disruption and Innovations: Where does higher education go from here? —At this event, President Aoun will discuss the future of higher education with two former college presidents: Lawrence Bacow, of Tufts University, and Susan Hockfield, of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The event will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 5:30 p.m. in the event space on the 17th floor of East Village. Myra Kraft Open Classroom — This unique semesterlong course, which is free and open to the public, brings experts to campus to shed light on topics of particular interest. This year’s course focuses on the 2016 presidential election. Weekly classes are held every Wednesday between Sept. 7 and Dec. 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. in West Village F, room 20. The next one is on Wednesday, Sept. 28. There is no session on Nov. 23 due to the Thanksgiving holiday. Forbes 30 Under 30 — The Forbes 30 Under 30 summit will make a stop at Blackman Auditorium as part of a multi-day, multi-venue, citywide event bringing together Boston’s next generation of entrepreneurs. Events on campus will be held on Monday, Oct. 17 from 2 to 5 p.m. and Tuesday, Oct. 18, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more expert insight, don’t miss a lecture by Wes Bush, CEO of Northrop Grumman. A conversation between Bush and President Aoun will be held on Monday, Nov. 21. Northeastern offers a vast array of opportunities to get involved beyond campus, as well. The Global Co-op Networking Fair on Thursday, Sept. 22, offers a chance for students interested in doing a global co-op to gain insight from those who’ve already completed one of these experiential learning opportunities. The event, which runs from 6 to 8 p.m., will feature 35 student panelists who worked for companies in a total of 20 different countries. During NU Service Day on Saturday, Oct. 15, students can volunteer to be part of one of more than 20 service projects being worked on throughout Boston. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Register in advance here. The On Fire to Hire Startup Expo is an event sponsored by the Center for Entrepreneurship and Education, giving students the opportunity to network with startups looking to hire interns, co-ops, and full-time employees. This semester’s expo will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 25, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The Center for Entrepreneurship and Education also hosts campus events during Global Entrepreneurship Week, a celebration of innovators and entrepreneurs around the world. This year, GEW will be held from Monday, Nov. 14 through Sunday, Nov. 20. Various events will be held throughout the week. For arts enthusiasts, there are a couple events you’ll want to add to your calendar this semester. On Tuesday, Oct. 11, artist Susan Cervantes and artists from Precita Eyes Murals will unveil a new installation of public artwork on campus. A celebration of the community-based mural will be held at the Latino/a Student Cultural Center from 3 to 5 p.m. This year’s annual John Coltrane Memorial Concert, “An Evening of Ballads & Blues,” celebrates its 30th anniversary at Northeastern on Saturday, Oct. 29. The musical celebration of the late jazz legend will start at 7:30 p.m. in Blackman Auditorium. Purchase tickets in advance from the University Box Office. There are plenty of opportunities to dig out the face paint and cheer on your Huskies this semester, too. On Tuesday, Oct. 18, the women’s ice hockey team takes on Boston University at 7 p.m. Then, on Friday, Nov. 4, the men’s ice hockey team will test the mettle of the BU Terriers at 7 p.m. Hungry for more Beantown rivalries? Head back to Matthews Arena on Sunday, Nov. 20 to see the women’s ice hockey team take on Boston College at 2 p.m.; on Tuesday, Nov. 29, the men’s ice hockey team will get its turn to take on the Eagles. Both the men’s and women’s basketball teams will each play home openers against Boston University on Friday, Nov. 11, part of the university’s annual homecoming celebration. The women play at 3 p.m. at Cabot Center, followed by the men at 7 p.m. at Matthews Arena. Finally, don’t miss these opportunities to get involved in the broader campus community. Show your relatives around during Parent and Family Weekend, from Friday, Oct. 21 through Sunday, Oct. 23. A variety of campus events will be held throughout the weekend. Attending the Head of the Charles is very nearly a rite of passage for everyone living in Boston. The regatta will pit some of the best rowing teams—including Northeastern’s—against each other for ultimate glory. This year, the two-day rowing event will be held on Saturday, Oct. 22 and Sunday, Oct. 23.
