‘Character Never Under-Delivers’

Now for some good news. I had to do a quick web search yesterday to confirm that “winningest” is indeed a real word. This was prompted by our men’s basketball coach, Bill Coen, who became the winningest coach in the history of the Colonial Athletic Association, Northeastern’s athletic conference, on Saturday night. The Huskies defeated Elon University 84-72 down in North Carolina.

For those of us who follow the team, it was great to rack up another win (three out of the last four games) as we get into the heart of the regular season schedule. But the real win was Coach Coen notching his 184th victory in the CAA, surpassing George Mason University’s longtime coach, Jim Larranga

The best NCAA coaches are also great managers and inspiring leaders. When speaking about how to recruit and build a winning team, Bill often says: “Character never under-delivers.” I’ve always liked that line. And when it comes to our men’s basketball team, we know that it starts at the top.
