Northeastern forward Mia Brown scored in overtime to lift the women’s hockey team over Boston College 5-4 on Tuesday night at Matthews Arena in a thrilling victory that extended the Huskies’ unbeaten streak to 12 games.

Trailing 4-3 with 1:27 remaining in the third period, Northeastern pulled goalie Aerin Frankel and tied the game six seconds later when forward Chloe Aurard found a loose puck outside the crease and knocked it into the net. Frankel saved 46 shots, a career high for the sophomore netminder.

The game, which pitted two of the nation’s top five teams against each other in a battle for Hockey East bragging rights, included four lead changes. The Huskies trailed 2-0 after the first period, but then exploded for three goals in the second frame to take a 3-2 lead. Forward Alina Mueller potted two goals, including a power-play strike five minutes into the period to put the Huskies on the board. BC scored twice in the third period to retake the lead, setting the stage for the heroics from Aurard and Brown in the game’s final minutes.

With the win, Northeastern (12-1-2) improved its record to 3-1-0 against top-10 ranked teams this season.

The victory also snapped Northeastern’s eight-game winless streak against Boston College at Matthews Arena, dating back to 2013. The two teams will face each other two more times in the regular season: They will play a home-and-home series on Jan. 11 and 12.
