Men’s basketball beats Delaware to begin CAA tournament play

The Northeastern men’s basketball team beat Delaware, 74-50, on Sunday night in the quarterfinal round of the Colonial Athletic Association tournament. The Huskies will now face UNC Wilmington on Monday night at 8:30 p.m. in the semifinals.

The No. 2 Huskies held a 33-28 halftime lead and dominated the No. 7 Blue Hens from there, outscoring Delaware 41 to 22 in the second half for the victory. The win marked the 200th career victory for Northeastern head coach Bill Coen.

Sophomore Maxime Boursiquot led the Huskies in scoring with 17 points, while junior guard Vasa Pusica poured in 15 points, dished out 10 assists, and collected eight rebounds.

The Huskies, now winners of eight straight games, also hauled in a handful of conference accolades on Friday. Coen, who led Northeastern to a 14-4 conference record, was named CAA Coach of the Year for the first time in his career. The Huskies earned a share of the CAA regular season title for the third time in the past six seasons.

Sophomore guard Shawn Occeus, who led the CAA in steals this season, was named the Defensive Player of the Year. Sophomore guard Bolden Brace was voted Sixth Man of the Year, Pusica finished as the runner up for Player of the Year while earning All-CAA First Team honors, and freshman forward Tomas Murphy made the CAA All-Rookie Team.
