Northeastern’s 115th Commencement exercises will be held later this week, capping off a series of events and activities in celebration of the soon-to-be graduates.
Here’s what you need to know, from cap and gown pickup to the big day itself.
Cap and gown pickup
Participating graduates—with the exception of military personnel—must wear the regalia provided to them by Northeastern.
All undergraduate students must pick up their caps and gowns in Cabot Center on Tuesday, May 2 or Wednesday, May 3 between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. Undergraduate students are also asked to pick up a flag—representing either their home country or a nation where they had a global experience—for use in the Commencement ceremony.
Graduate students—with some exceptions—must also pick up their caps and gowns in Cabot Center on Tuesday, May 2 or Wednesday, May 3 between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m.
- Students in the Doctor of Nursing Practice and master’s in nursing programs must pick up their caps and gowns in Cabot Center on Tuesday, May 2 between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. or on Wednesday, May 3 between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
- Students in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program must pick up their caps and gowns in 6 Robinson Hall on Monday, May 1, Tuesday, May 2, or Wednesday, May 3.
- Academic regalia for PhD students will be available upon arrival to the ceremony at Cabot Center on May 4 at 8:45 a.m.
Tickets are required to attend many of the events and activities held during Senior Week, including a day-trip to Portland, Maine. For ticketing information, visit the myNEU student portal.
Buses destined for Maine’s coast will depart from Northeastern at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, May 1. The all-day excursion—buses will return to campus at 5:30 p.m.—will include shopping as well as the opportunity to take in some amazing coastal views.
Northeastern Night at Fenway Park
Scores of seniors will be in attendance at Fenway Park on Tuesday, May 2, when the Boston Red Sox battle the Baltimore Orioles. First pitch is at 7:10 p.m., but arrive early to hear the winner of NU Idol sing the national anthem.
Brunch and cap decorating
Crafty? Put some flare on your graduation cap while enjoying brunch in the Curry Student Center West Addition on Thursday, May 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Art supplies will be on hand—but you’ll need to bring the creativity.
CommencementFest will be held on Thursday, May 4 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Centennial Common, giving students and their families the chance to have some fun before the big day.
There will be food and green screen photos booths, a DJ and living statues that you’ll have to see to believe.
Participants will also have the opportunity to interact with a public art display and a Class of 2017 timeline, featuring five big events that have occurred during the class’ time on campus
The doctor of philosophy hooding and graduation ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 4 at 10 a.m. in Cabot Center.
Graduates must report to Cabot Center by 8:45 a.m. Doors will open for guests at 9 a.m.
World renowned journalist Christiane Amanpour, CNN’s chief international correspondent, will deliver the Commencement address at the undergraduate day ceremony, which will be held on Friday, May 5 at 10:30 a.m. at TD Garden in Boston.
Graduates must report to the Garden by 7:30 a.m. Doors will open for guests at 7:30 a.m.
Dave Gilboa and Neil Blumenthal, the co-founders of the innovative lifestyle brand Warby Parker, will deliver the Commencement address at the graduate ceremony, which will be held on Friday, May 5 at 4 p.m. at Matthews Arena in Boston.
Graduates must report to Matthews Arena by 2:15 p.m. Doors will open for guests at 2:30 p.m.
The Bouvé College of Health Sciences will hold several graduation ceremonies throughout the week: Students in the DNP and master’s in nursing programs will graduate on Wednesday, May 3; students in the doctor of pharmacy and doctor of physical therapy programs will graduate on Thursday, May 4; and students in the doctor of audiology program will graduate on Friday, May 5.
The College of Professional Studies and the School of Law, for their parts, will hold graduation ceremonies later this month. CPS’ ceremony will take place on Friday, May 12, while the law school’s ceremony will be held on Friday, May 26.
