Students will have the opportunity to receive the latest information about President Donald J. Trump’s immigration- and travel-related executive orders on Monday at an event hosted by Student Affairs. Titled “Immigration Executive Orders: Your Rights and the Current Climate, ” the information session will be held in room 102 of the Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Complex at 3 p.m.

The event will feature attorney Megan Kludt of Curran & Berger LLP, a law firm specializing in immigration law. Kludt will update attendees on the status of the existing executive orders; share information about the legal efforts related to the ban of nationals of certain countries; explain students’ constitutional rights; highlight key things to know; and expound on changes in implementation and processing trends.

Late last month, President Trump signed a series of executive orders, including a sweeping order that shut U.S. borders to immigrants and refugees from seven majority Muslim countries. The order suspended entry by all refugees from any country to the U.S. for 120 days, barred Syrian refugees indefinitely, and blocked entry into the U.S. for 90 days for citizens of Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen.

Days later, Northeastern joined seven other Massachusetts colleges and universities in filing an amicus brief in opposition to the order. President Aoun sent messages to the campus community on Jan. 28 and Feb. 5, and earlier this month Northeastern launched a website detailing information and resources for students.

A federal district court in Washington issued a ruling that temporarily blocks Trump’s order from being enforced nationwide, but the White House has promised a new executive order that’s expected to address the concerns raised by judges that have put the policy on hold.

All students are welcome to attend, but are asked to register in advance. To register, email vpstudentaffairs@northeastern.edu.
