Board of Trustees approves new academic plan, Northeastern 2025

Last week, the Northeastern University Board of Trustees approved Northeastern 2025, the university’s academic plan for the next decade. In a message to the campus community on Monday, President Joseph E. Aoun called the plan “a blueprint for empowering people to succeed in an era of unprecedented technological, social, and economic change.”

The development of the plan was spearheaded by Provost Jim Bean and followed a year of robust dialogue with, and contributions from, members of the university community—contributions the president said articulate “who we are as a university—and what we dream to achieve.”

The university has launched an interactive site detailing the Northeastern 2025 plan.

And here is the full text of the president’s message:

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff Colleagues,

Ten years ago, Northeastern embarked on an ambitious and transformative Academic Plan that yielded spectacular results. Now the time has come to build on this strong foundation and take our next steps forward.

I am delighted to announce that, this past Friday, the Board of Trustees voted to approve Northeastern 2025, an Academic Plan for the next decade. It is a blueprint for empowering people to succeed in an era of unprecedented technological, social, and economic change.

My deepest thanks go to Provost Jim Bean, who spearheaded the design of this blueprint, and to the scores of people who worked tirelessly to make it a reality. But this is also a collaborative vision, rooted in our essence as an inclusive, diverse community fully engaged with the world. You all have my profound gratitude for your contributions to articulating who we are as a university—and what we dream to achieve.

This dream of limitless connection powering learning and discovery is compellingly audacious and innovative. Together, we will begin the work of realizing it. Together, we will build Northeastern 2025.

Sincerely,

Joseph E. Aoun
President
