Northeastern to celebrate 2013 law graduates

The Northeastern community will celebrate the achievements of more than 230 graduating students from the School of Law in a Commencement ceremony on Friday afternoon at Matthews Arena. The ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. and will be streamed live online.

President Joseph E. Aoun will preside over the ceremony. New Hampshire Governor Margaret Wood Hassan, a 1985 graduate of the School of Law, will deliver the Commencement address. She will also receive an honorary doctorate of laws.

School of Law dean Jeremy R. Paul, law professor Lucy Williams, and three students—Kevin William Manganaro, Cody L. Thornton, and Seda Akay Onur—will also deliver remarks to graduates at the ceremony.

Throughout her illustrious career in public service, Hassan has championed government as an active partner in solving the complex challenges confronting her state and the New England region.

First as a state legislator, and now as the Granite State’s second-ever woman chief executive, Hassan’s leadership has been marked by her ability to bring people together to find common ground around core issues such as education, healthcare, and jobs.

Hassan was elected governor in 2012 and is the driving force behind “Innovate NH,” a collaboration among business, education, and government aimed at elevating New Hampshire’s competitive position in the global economy. In 2010, Business NH Magazine named Hassan one of the state’s most powerful people.
