Michael Oren, the Israeli ambassador to the U.S., will visit Northeastern University later this month to deliver a lecture entitled, “Perspectives on the U.S.-Israeli Relationship.”

The event, sponsored by the Office of the Vice Provost for Global Relations, will be held on Tuesday, April 17, at 12:30 p.m. in Blackman Auditorium.

Oren has received fellowships from the U.S. Departments of State and Defense, and from the British and Canadian governments. Formerly, he was the Lady Davis Fellow of Hebrew University, a Moshe Dayan Fellow at Tel-Aviv University and a Distinguished Fellow at the Shalem Center in Jerusalem. He has also served as a visiting professor at Harvard, Yale and Georgetown.

An accomplished author and an avid historian, Oren’s two most recent books — “Six Days of War: June 1967 and the Making of the Modern Middle East” and “Power, Faith, and Fantasy: America in the Middle East, 1776 to the Present” — were both New York Times bestsellers. His work has also earned him the Los Angeles Times’ History Book of the Year prize, a National Council of the Humanities Award and the National Jewish Book Award. He has also written extensively for The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and The New Republic, where he was a contributing editor.

In an article he wrote entitled “The Ultimate Ally” that appeared in Foreign Policy magazine last year, Oren outlined the lengthy history of cooperation and partnership between Israel and the US, writing that “Israelis have always stood by (Americans), ready to share technology, intelligence, and innovation — ready to aid them in conflict and to make the painful sacrifices for peace.”
