Under sunny skies and mild conditions, 500 seniors and 100 alumni will watch the Red Sox take on the team’s greatest rival, the New York Yankees, Friday during Northeastern Night at Fenway Park. President Joseph Aoun will throw out the ceremonial first pitch and senior Allyson Tessmann will sing the national anthem.

“This is a perfect example of the strong relationship between the Red Sox and Husky Nation,” said Jack Moynihan, vice president of alumni relations and The Northeastern Fund. “With terrific annual events like NU Family Day at Fenway and the Huskies vs. Red Sox cookout and spring training game, we’ve built a great partnership between two of Boston’s most storied institutions.”

Tessmann, a music major, won the “NU Idol” competition for seniors, singing an a cappella song and “The Star-Spangled Banner” for a panel of judges. The Portage, Wisc., native, has performed for smaller audiences during high school football games and talent shows.

But never has she performed in front of a crowd as large as the 35,000 expected to cheer on the Red Sox.

“I’m not nervous now, but I’m sure I will be when I’m standing on the field,” she said a few hours before her performance.

In late February, Northeastern alumni, family and friends celebrated the start of a new baseball season in Fort Myers, Fla., at the sixth annual Huskies vs. Red Sox cookout and spring training game.

The office of alumni relations, in conjunction with the Naples alumni chapter, hosted the event, with 600 guests on hand to enjoy a pre-game cookout before watching the Huskies in their annual showdown against the Red Sox at City of Palms Park.

Northeastern Night at Fenway is part of senior week, which includes a series of events for the 2,700 students set to graduate on May 1.
