The One Campaign Goes Over the Top by News@Northeastern - Contributor March 25, 2009 Share Facebook LinkedIn Twitter Over the past several weeks, a record number of alumni, parents, and friends have participated in lively discussions about the future direction of Northeastern University as part of the One Campaign, a university-wide alumni outreach initiative that involves all of Northeastern’s schools and colleges. With just over a week remaining in the campaign, University officials have sailed past their original goal to speak with roughly 1 in every 100 alumni. Northeastern’s president, provost, deans, faculty and staff have already engaged 2,037 individuals in conversations about Northeastern. Each of these interactions has given alumni, parents and friends a valuable opportunity to learn more about what’s happening on campus and to share their perspectives about Northeastern’s future. The campaign’s momentum and positive results have caused the University to extend the overall goal to 2,100 face-to-face conversations. “Our experiences underscore that personal outreach is our most powerful tool in connecting alumni, parents and friends,” said Diane MacGillivray, senior vice president for university advancement. “I have no doubt that—together—we will surpass this benchmark as well.” Various events have brought the Northeastern family together during the past few weeks including networking opportunities in Boston, and a Celtics vs. Bulls pre-game event sponsored by the Chicago Alumni Chapter. More than 200 alumni and friends attended a pre-game gathering at the Greatest Bar before the NCAA Hockey East game, and a sold-out crowd attended the ArtsAlive! series pre-show reception and production of “Dirty Dancing.” “There’s a lot of excitement about the direction of the alumni effort, and all the different ways to stay involved in the University,” said Jack Moynihan, vice-president of alumni relations. “The One Campaign is proving just how visible and energetic we are as an alumni body.” Moreover, the One Campaign is illustrating the global connectedness of the Northeastern family, with people from China to Peru e-mailing their perspectives about what’s happening at Northeastern. The One Campaign ends March 31, but both MacGillivray and Moynihan add that the initiative ushers in a heightened level of outreach to the Northeastern community that will continue indefinitely.
