    Over the past six years, Northeastern student Elina Mariutsa has found a home in many different cities around the world. But while the people of every one of those places were welcoming to her, she has found that the governments have been generally hostile toward each other. This discord is what ultimately propelled her passion for diplomacy.

    How two foodie friends became gurus on the ’gram


    Three years ago, Northeastern student Rachel Eng and her friend from high school started an Instagram account where they could post photos of food to help each other decide where to eat next. Now their account, @twotastebuddiez, boasts more than 18,000 followers who use the page to navigate the food scene in Boston.

    How to hack a video game console (and protect one)


    A group of students from Northeastern’s Khoury College of Computer Sciences successfully designed a prototype gaming console that stopped every attempted attack in a recent competition. The students also proved to be impressive hackers themselves, defeating the security measures in the systems designed by the other teams.

    Hacking an airplane’s landing instruments isn’t as hard as it should be


    In low-visibility situations, pilots rely on radio signals to guide their approach to a runway. Using a relatively inexpensive setup, researchers in Northeastern’s Khoury College of Computer Sciences recently demonstrated that they could hack these signals and direct a plane to land off target.
