It’s Inauguration Day. We caught up with students to ask them if they’ll be watching and what they hope to hear from Donald Trump in his inauguration address. Here’s what they said.

Adeola Jaiyeola, DMSB’18

Jaiyeola, an international business major from France, will be watching the inauguration with her two American roommates, political junkies who have helped to increase her interest in the event. “It’s a big moment for America,” she said, referring to the pomp and circumstance of a presidential inauguration.

Hannah Mager, S’21

Mager, a chemistry major, is looking forward to hearing what Trump has to say in his inaugural address. “I’m still confused about a lot of his policies,” she said, noting her particular interest in whether he will discuss his plan to repeal and replace President Barack Obama’s signature healthcare law. “Everyone seems to be curious about his immigration policy as well.”

Shane Powers, E’21

Powers, a computer engineering major, noted that he is not a particularly political person. But he did vote and he will be tuning in to Trump’s inauguration. “It’s my right to know what he’s going to say,” Powers explained. “I’ve never had a hugely negative opinion of him and he is going to be our president.”

Shivi Singh, CIS’17

Singh, a computer science and business administration combined major, will not be watching Trump’s inauguration on Friday, saying that she “won’t support a president who does not reflect America’s values and beliefs.” But she will be participating in the Boston Women’s March for America on Saturday, which will include planned remarks from U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey. “It will be a great way for everyone who felt saddened by the results of the election to come together,” Singh said.

Brian Yeung, CIS’20

Yeung, a computer science major, will be following the news from the inauguration on Facebook. The big question he has about President Trump: “Will he do what he says he’s going to do?”
