Here’s a rundown of events taking place at Northeastern this month that you won’t want to miss, including Academic Honors Convocation, RISE, and a panel discussion on Zika.

Zika pandemic panel discussion

An interdisciplinary panel of Northeastern faculty will discuss the rise of Zika and examine what is known about the virus and the global response to the outbreak. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, April 6, at 4 p.m.

Research expo

Top projects showcasing the use-inspired research being conducted by Northeastern students and faculty will be on display on Thursday, April 7, at RISE:2016, the university’s annual research, innovation, and scholarship expo.

Hundreds of innovative research projects from fields including engineering, health sciences, and computer information will be on display in the Cabot Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Presenters will be on hand to discuss their work in greater detail, and an awards ceremony will follow the expo from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the 17th floor of East Village.

Demo Day

More than 20 student ventures that have completed the seven-week Husky Startup Challenge will attend Demo Day on Monday, April 11, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., in the Curry Student Center.

This year’s event is comprised of three parts: an expo where the student entrepreneurs will discuss their work this semester; a pitch-a-thon where the students will pitch their business idea to all the Demo Day attendees; and a keynote address along with an awards presentation.

Valerie Gordon lecture

The Valerie Gordon Human Rights Lecture brings exceptional legal scholars and human rights advocates to campus to discuss their work and share their insights with Northeastern law students.

This year’s lecturer is Morten Kjaerum, director of the Raoul Wallenberg Institute for Human Rights in Lund, Sweden. Kjaerum was the first director of the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights.

His lecture—titled “Racism and Inclusion: Where is Europe Headed?”—will take place on Wednesday, April 13, at noon at the Northeastern University Law School. Register here.

Boston’s ‘Big Dig’

As part of the Neighborhood Matters series, Boston’s city archeologist Joe Bagley will give a talk at Snell Library on Tuesday, April 19, from noon to 1:30 p.m.

He will show various artifacts found during the Big Dig, one of Boston’s largest civic engineering projects, while explaining how each piece lends new insight into Boston’s history.

Academic Honors Convocation

Northeastern’s annual celebration of achievement will take place on Thursday, April 21, at 1 p.m. on the 17th floor of East Village.

Each year this convocation honors the members of the community who channel their extraordinary talents and passion into transformative research and scholarship, exceptional teaching and mentoring, and innovation in higher education.

Athletics

Northeastern athletics will be busy this month with more than 20 home events. Among them:

The baseball team will host a three-game series against Colonial Athletic Association foe William & Mary on April 22, 23, and 24, at Friedman Diamond.

Women’s rowing will battle for the Woodbury Cup against Columbia on Saturday, April 9.

The men’s rowing team will take on Harvard on Saturday, April 30, at 7:30 a.m., with the winner taking home the Smith Cup.
