Delta Tau Delta teams up to fight type 1 diabetes by Jason Kornwitz March 31, 2016 Share Facebook LinkedIn Twitter Northeastern’s chapter of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity will host an event on Saturday in support of JDRF, a nonprofit dedicated to funding type 1 diabetes research. The event—dubbed “Dunk-A-Delt”—will be held in the West Village Quad from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will include food, lawn games, and a dunking booth. For $2 per throw—or $5 for three throws—attendees will have the opportunity to dunk a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. 2016 marks the third consecutive year in which the fraternity has organized the event, which has so far raised some $2,000. “Because this is for such a good cause, no one ever hesitates to suck it up and embrace the cold,” said Chris Lobosco, SSH’18, the fraternity’s vice-president. “Everyone who comes leaves smiling, whether they were dunked themselves, got to dunk someone, or just came to be part of the excitement.” Delta Tau Delta was founded in 1858 at Bethany College and formed a national philanthropic partnership with JDRF in 2012. The Northeastern chapter was chartered in 2014 and counts approximately 90 active members, who, as the fraternity’s mission statement proclaims, are “committed to lives of excellence.” “We try to do everything in our power to show people the good side of fraternities and what we have to offer the community,” said Lobosco. As a case in point, fraternity members volunteered at JDRF’s 2016 TypeOneNation Boston Summit at the Marriott in Copley Place. Some worked as greeters, showing attendees where to go, while others took care of children whose parents were attending talks. “We’re pretty close with JDRF,” Lobosco said.
