Northeastern University will confer the degrees of Juris Doctor and Master of Laws upon some 200 students on Friday afternoon at the School of Law Commencement.

President Joseph E. Aoun will preside over the Commencement exercises, which begin at 1 p.m. in Matthews Arena and will be streamed live. University leaders, faculty, staff, family, and friends will join in the celebration, for which the Northeastern community is encouraged to use #NUSL2015 on social media.

Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey, L’98, will deliver the Commencement address and receive an honorary degree. Healey was elected attorney general in November. She joined the attorney general’s office in 2007 as chief of the Civil Rights Division and the Public Protection and Business and Labor bureaus.

Healey successfully challenged the Defense of Marriage Act in federal court before the Supreme Court struck it down. She helped homeowners who were victims of the mortgage crisis by shutting down predatory mortgage lenders in Massachusetts and overseeing a team that worked with homeowners to help make their loans affordable. She also helped defend the state’s buffer zone law that put boundaries around anti-abortion protests at reproductive health centers.

School of Law Dean Jeremy Paul will give welcome remarks and professor Daniel Medwed, an expert in criminal law, will deliver the faculty address. There will also be three student speakers: Kenneth Kaufman, Emma Hunter, and Ernest Nwachan, all L’15.
