WeekendWatch: Husky hockey, Hanson and road races by Matt Collette October 6, 2011 Share Facebook LinkedIn Twitter Take the ice: The men’s and women’s hockey teams start their regular seasons today at Matthews Arena. The women’s team faces off against Syracuse at 3 p.m., while the men’s team — led by new head coach Jim Madigan — takes on the University of Massachusetts at 7 p.m. Autumn in Rhode Island: Pick your own pumpkins and peaches as you explore Sweet Berry Farm in Middletown, R.I., where Alumni Relations is hosting a day for alumni and their families starting at 10 a.m. Registration costs $5 — all of which goes to the Northeastern Fund — and includes a tour of the farm and complimentary snacks. Root for road racers: The 11th annual Boston Athletic Association Half Marathon starts Sunday at 8:30 a.m. The course will take thousands of runners on a loop through the city, including nearby thoroughfares such as the Riverway, Fenway and Jamaicaway. The event is not as large or iconic as the Boston Marathon in April, but provides an excellent opportunity to enjoy a fall day along the city’s most scenic roadways. MmmBop?: Students may swear they didn’t listen to them in middle school, but we know they still remember all the words to Hanson songs. If you’re looking for a nostalgic evening, they’re at House of Blues at 8 p.m. this Saturday night. But be warned: when the band appeared on campus in 2005, they outright refused to perform “MmmBop,” saying the band had moved beyond the pop tunes that made the trio of long-haired brothers famous. Columbus Day Parade: The annual Columbus Day Parade in Boston kicks off at 1 p.m. near Christopher Columbus Park in the North End. Family activities start around 10 a.m., and continue through the afternoon.
