Next stop for quick eats: the Northeastern food truck

The latest foodie craze is pulling into Northeastern: our new food truck will be making its debut on campus, serving up lunch and late-night eats starting later in the fall semester. The new 30-foot-long truck is equipped with a full kitchen and a menu chosen by students that will include everything from Thai basil rice bowls to grilled mac and cheese sandwiches.

This newest addition to the campus dining scene needs a name. A contest is under way for students to name the truck, with the entrant who offers the most creative selection winning a party catered by the new food truck. For the next two weeks, students can submit their best suggestions. Email entries should be sent to namethetruck@neu.edu and include the food truck name suggestion, student name, telephone number and Husky email address. Entries can also be submitted via Twitter to @NUDining. Twitter contestants will be contacted directly for personal information.

“The goal for the mobile truck is to provide additional service for those who do not have time to travel to dining halls or other food venues on campus,” said Timothy Cooney, the resident district manager for Chartwells, the company that operates dining services at Northeastern. “It is a great addition to campus that allows Dining Services to provide unique foods in a mobile venue with great versatility.”

The menu consists of items students selected as their favorites during last spring’s “Educate Your Palate” event at International Village, which was planned in anticipation of the new vehicle coming to campus this fall. Students can use their Husky Dollars, Dining Dollars, credit or debit cards to purchase food from the truck. Information about the truck and menu will be available online at nudining.com.

Food Network has it’s own Great Food Truck Race underway, but now the students on the streets of Northeastern can join the race to name our campus’s very own food truck. Let the name game begin!
