What is it? Northeastern offers tuition scholarships for eligible employees to take classes at the university for free through its Tuition Waiver Program.

What does it cover? The scholarship strictly covers the initial deposit and classes, not books or any other supplies.

How large are the scholarships and who qualifies?

Coverage depends on how many hours a week the employee works at the university and whether they are faculty or staff. Select retired faculty and staff can also apply, granted they meet certain criteria.

For a full list of requirements, check out the university’s waiver program guidelines.

What about spouses and dependents? Can they also apply for tuition scholarships?

Yes. The spouse or dependents of an employee can apply for tuition remission as long as certain requirements are met. The requirements vary depending on the employee’s longevity and status.

What’s the first step?

Individuals must first apply and be accepted into the specific program or class they are interested in participating in.

Once that is completed, they must fill out a tuition waiver form, which is available through the HR Service Center website. For people who don’t have access to the benefits center, they can request the form by emailing HR-Benefits@northeastern.edu

Once I get into my chosen program or class, when do I have to submit a waiver form?

The university requires individuals to submit a waiver within 30 days of their course start date to ensure any problems are addressed before the start of the term.
