Northeastern University Celebrates Inaugural Pride Week by News@Northeastern - Contributor October 1, 2007 Share Facebook LinkedIn Twitter WHO/WHAT: Northeastern University continues its quest to become a national and international leader in diversity and inclusion by hosting its inaugural Pride Week. A week-long series of activities and events will celebrate lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered (LGBT) individuals and hope to raise awareness of the community among the general population in an effort to build equality for all. WHEN: Pride Week kicks-off on Tuesday, October 9 and concludes on the night of Friday, October 12th. EVENT HIGHLIGHTS: Stories of Asian American Pride: Expanding Our Understanding of Ethnic and Sexual Identity. Wednesday, October 10 at 6 p.m. in the Asian American Center’s Multipurpose Room. The “Kinsey Sicks,” America’s favorite dragapella beautyshop quartet will perform “Condoleezapalooza.” Wednesday, October 10 at 7 p.m. John Amaechi, Human Rights Campaign national spokesperson and former Orlando Magic basketball player, will speak.(October 11 is National Coming Out Day) Thursday, October 11th at 7 p.m. in the Curry Student Center Ballroom. Denim Day, where anybody can wear denim (usually jeans) to show support for the LGBT community. Friday, October 12th, all day on the Northeastern campus. Other events during the week include open mic night, brown bag lunch discussions, Safe Zone training and a live performance from the Music and Entertainment Industry Student Association (MEISA). Pride Week is sponsored by Northeastern University’s Bisexual Lesbian and Gay Association, the Council for University Programs, the Resident Student Association, Residential Life, afterHOURS and the Office of Student Activities.
