I’ll take ‘Northeastern professors’ for $400. Rose Sloan takes on ‘Jeopardy!’
Rose Sloan, who teaches computer science at Northeastern University, will appear on an upcoming episode of the legendary game show.

As a professor, Rose Sloan is used to being in front of an audience. But on Tuesday, Sloan will appear in front of more than just her Northeastern University students.
As one of three contestants on Tuesday’s episode of “Jeopardy!” Sloan will be trying her hand at one of America’s most famous game shows in front of millions of people.
By day, Sloan is an assistant teaching professor of computer science at Northeastern, which she joined in 2024. In her work, she is finding new ways to make text-to-speech computer voices sound more natural by improving how text-based AI models predict the rhythms and linguistic features of spoken language. Her work has taken her beyond academia, too: She conducted similar work at IBM as a graduate researcher.
Sloan said she could not speak to Northeastern Global News ahead of her appearance on “Jeopardy!” without the permission of the show.
In her free time, Sloan has also honed the kind of broad trivia knowledge any “Jeopardy!” contestant needs through her hobby: crafting crossword puzzles.
Sloan’s “Jeopardy!” appearance is part of the show’s 42nd season, which like five of the seven past seasons, has grown in popularity year-over-year. “Jeopardy!” remains the most-watched syndicated series on television, according to Nielsen.
Sloan will face off against Sunil Hebbar, a California physician, and whoever becomes the returning champion of Monday’s episode. If Sloan wins on Tuesday, she will return on Wednesday.
“Jeopardy!” airs Monday through Friday on affiliate stations around the country, including on Boston’s WBZ at 7:30 p.m. Episodes are available to stream the next day on both Hulu and Peacock.
