Photo by Adam Glanzman/Northeastern University The News@Northeastern team is looking for a creative, driven individual to report and write great stories for its award-winning daily news organization. This person will work alongside photographers, videographers, graphic designers, and web developers in News@Northeastern’s fast-paced digital newsroom. The ideal candidate is a team player who wants to contribute to an innovative, multiplatform digital news operation. The reporter co-op will conceptualize and write a range of news stories, features, and other materials, using the full array of digital storytelling platforms to promote Northeastern’s programs, priorities, and community to internal and external audiences with the goal of increasing visibility and enhancing the university’s reputation. The reporter co-op is expected to research information thoroughly and accurately, working closely with administrators, faculty, students, and other members of the campus community. The reporter co-op is expected to stay abreast of both world news and higher education news by reading a variety of news sources. He/she is expected to collaborate with editors to achieve communications goals. The reporter co-op must be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment. The reporter co-op must be able to communicate to other members of the team from the outset of a project, and help conceptualize not just the writing, but also the visual and digital presentation of stories. Other duties and responsibilities include assisting the department’s digital team with a range of projects, participating in media strategy for news stories intended for external publicity, copy-editing, and headline writing.
