Be sure to get these on your calendar. Listening and speaking classes Throughout the summer, the Global Student Success office will host courses to help students prepare for the American classroom. These courses offer listening and speaking practice for students to improve their pronunciation, listening comprehension, and speaking skills for university-level classroom success. The first class will be held on Monday, July 9 at 4:35 p.m. in Richards Hall. Career development All summer, the Career Development office will host events designed to prepare students for the next step in their careers, including guided job searches, LinkedIn workshops, and tips for networking. The next event is a job search workshop on Monday, July 9 at 3 p.m. in the Stearns Center. World Cup Watch the World Cup semifinals with fellow soccer fans on Wednesday, July 11 at 2 p.m. in Afterhours at the Curry Student Center. Break into Tech: Boston Get a taste of computer science with this workshop designed for the uninitiated. Learn how computer science applies to everyday situations, how it’s used to fight cancer, how it determines which movies you’ll like, and more. The workshop is on Wednesday, July 11, at 5:30 p.m. in West Village H. Register online in advance. Align lunch and learn The Align Master of Science in Computer Science Program provides a direct path to an MSCS for non-computer science majors. The Align program is designed for people who do not have a technical background and are interested in combining their skills and undergraduate education with computer science. Northeastern’s campus in Charlotte, North Carolina, will host two events this summer—one on Friday, July 13 at noon and the other on Friday, Aug. 3 at noon—where potential students can meet program staff, ask questions, and get a free lunch. Register online in advance. Shakespeare on the Common Witness a free, live performance of Shakespeare’s Richard III with Shakespeare on the Common this summer. The show runs from Wednesday, July 18 through Sunday, Aug. 5 on Boston Common. Discuss the play with the Global Student Success office and other Northeastern theater-lovers before and after the performance on Tuesday, July 27. Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum Take a free guided tour of the historic Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum on Friday, July 27 at noon.
