This season, men’s hockey has honored two members of the Northeastern community who made enormous contributions to the university.

The team is wearing “JPG” patches on its jerseys in honor of the late Jack Grinold, the university’s longtime sports information director, who died in April at the age of 81. This year marked the first in 50 years the Beanpot is being played without Grinold. He was inducted into the Beanpot Hall of Fame in 2012 and was for decades a member of the Beanpot committee and the executive editor of the tournament program.

The team is also wearing “GPM” stickers on its helmets in honor of George P. Makris, who died in December at age 96. Makris gave more than half a century of service to Northeastern as a student-athlete, fundraiser, and philanthropist. As a student-athlete, he earned three varsity letters for the Huskies in football, ice hockey, and baseball.
