Rebecca Carrier, associate professor and associate chair of research in the Department of Chemical Engineering, investigates the human gut microbiome to better understand how the food we eat affects our health and certain types of diseases. “We are not alone,” she says, noting that our guts contain “a thousand more microbe genes than human genes.” Carrier addressed that topic during remarks at the opening of the Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Complex on April 3.
