“Having a mentee through the African American Institute legacy program helps keep my eyes open and feet grounded and makes me say ‘this is bigger than I am.’ I have to make sure I not only support myself but I support my mentee. And the values that I have fostered through that have helped me in my own friendships and relationships because it makes me more accessible.”
