The event starts at 6 p.m. at Centennial Common. …And a presidential welcome In the week’s cornerstone event, President Joseph E. Aoun will welcome new students and transfer students to the university at the President’s Convocation and March, held at Matthews Arena on Tuesday, Sept. 6, starting at 8:45 a.m. Immediately after Convocation, be sure to hit up the campus quads to celebrate the start of the semester with Fall Fest. The free festival offers music, giveaways, games, and a “taste of Boston,” including food from a sampling of the city’s cultural hubs. On Tuesday at 7 p.m. new students will return to Matthews Arena to take part in an event for the First Pages program, which requires all first-year students to read a challenging and engaging book. Pulitzer Prize-winning author Tracy Kidder will address the incoming class and discuss his book, Strength in What Remains: A Journey of Remembrance and Forgiveness. The university’s individual colleges will also be hosting welcome events throughout the day. Check the Welcome Week schedule for a complete listing of times and locations.
