In honor of her continued excellence as a health law jurist and educator, Wendy Parmet, the Matthews Distinguished University Professor of Law, recently received the American Society of Law, Medicine, and Ethics’ prestigious Jay Healey Health Law Teachers Award.

This annual award recognizes a teacher of health law who embodies the passion and drive of its namesake Jay Healy, a teacher at the University of Connecticut Schools of Law and Medicine who died in 1993 of pancreatic cancer.

“I was surprised and deeply honored to receive this award,” said Parmet, who was recognized at the society’s annual Health Law Professors Conference on Saturday. “It’s especially affirming to have had my work recognized by my health law colleagues. I also think that this award is a testament to the growing reputation of the School of Law’s health law program.”

A leading expert on health, disability, and public health law, Parmet is a national voice in identifying solutions for healthcare issues. She is the director of the School of Law’s Program on Health Policy and Law and holds a joint appointment in the School of Public Policy and Urban Affairs.

“Those of us who have the privilege of working with Wendy Parmet here at Northeastern are delighted but not surprised to see her honored by her peers for outstanding contributions to the teaching of health law,” said School of Law Dean Jeremy Paul. “Her dedication to students and passion for her subject are inspiring not just to those in her classes but to all who read her work and benefit from the vibrant explorations of health law that she has orchestrated here on campus.”
