Your guide to Welcome Week by Jordana Torres August 27, 2014 Share Facebook LinkedIn Twitter Welcome Week is where college life begins. It’s the Start of Something Great—the next chapter in your academic career. This year, Welcome Week will take place from Saturday, Aug. 30 to Saturday, Sept. 6, though some events start as early as Wednesday. Each day during Welcome Week is packed with information sessions, mingling events, city tours, ceremonies, sports games, and more for full-time undergraduate students. Many events are tailored to Northeastern’s newest Huskies, while others are open to the entire student body. To help you plan your week, the entire Welcome Week schedule can be found here. Students can also access schedules, maps, announcements, and more via the Welcome Week mobile app. Or just swing by the Welcome Booth set up in front of Krentzman Quad to ask questions or catch up on all the activity on campus. The signature Welcome Week events will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 2. The day kicks off with President Joseph E. Aoun’s annual “President’s Convocation” at Matthews Arena, where he will officially welcome new students to campus. Convocation will be followed by a new event in Centennial Common dubbed “A Taste of Boston,” featuring a tasting of foods representing the Boston Waterfront, Chinatown, and the North End. Later that evening, students will join First Pages author Sheri Fink as she discusses her riveting book, Five Days at Memorial: Life and Death in a Storm-Ravaged Hospital. Another exciting Welcome Week event is the first annual Fall Fest, where musical acts, giveaways, games, food trucks, and more will be spread out all over campus. This event, which takes place on Monday, Sept. 1 from 1-4 p.m., also gives new and returning students a chance to learn about student organizations, campus departments, and sports and recreation teams. There are also events tailored to particular undergraduate demographics. Examples include the International Student Soiree, the Honors Induction Ceremony, and the D’Amore-McKim Corporate Iditarod. Check the full schedule for a list of events specific to your program or college. Are you a returning student? Even upperclassmen can get in on the action. Fun events open to the entire student population include a Boston 5K Run, Comedy Hypnotist David Hall, Water Balloon Volleyball, a student employment job fair, and the College of Science’s annual liquid nitrogen ice cream social on Krentzman Quad.
