Happy holidays at Northeastern by Matt Collette December 21, 2011 Share Facebook LinkedIn Twitter All through December, Northeastern showed off its holiday spirit with decorations, events, parties and community service. Here are some photos that captured the scene on campus this month. Photos by Mary Knox Merrill, Casey Bayer and Mike Mazzanti. Christmas trees and wreaths adorned Krentzman Quad, visible from Huntington Avenue. Students Arthur Maserjian and Tamara Bursztyn lit the menorah on Krentzman Quad to celebrate the first day of Hanukkah on Dec. 20. Decorations and displays on campus include a Nativity scene, located in Krentzman Quad outside Dodge Hall. Sixty-five teams of students participated in the 11th-annual Gingerbread Construction Contest on Dec. 8. Students’ gingerbread houses were donated to local homeless shelters by Northeastern Dining Services. Check out a video featuring the event, held in the Stetson East dining hall. Meanwhile, a group of engineering students subjected their candy creations to earthquake forces, attempting to tear down the holiday houses. The Latino/a Student Cultural Center (above) and the Northeastern’s Office of City and Community Affairs held toy drives on campus to help disadvantaged families and children in and around Boston. Student and alumni entrepreneurs sold their products and promoted their businesses at the first-annual Holiday Entrepreneurs Fair, held in the Curry Student Center on Dec. 9. Donning a festive hat, President Joseph E. Aoun greeted faculty and staff during the annual faculty/staff holiday party, held in International Village on Dec. 16. During the party, President Aoun took the stage and joined student musical groups for a few holiday tunes.
