The Huskies are headed to Fenway.

In an historic moment for Northeastern University athletics, the men’s hockey team will face-off against the Boston College Eagles at Fenway Park on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012. The puck will drop at 4 p.m.

“Our hope at Northeastern is for our student-athletes to make memories that will last them a lifetime,” Northeastern Athletics Director Peter Roby said. “Playing hockey against Boston College at Fenway Park as part of its 100th year celebration will certainly be a memory our players, coaches, alumni and fans will never forget.”

The game — which is part of the Sun Life Frozen Fenway 2012 series — will be played after Catholic Memorial School and Boston College High School compete in the first game of a doubleheader on Fenway ice.

“The Northeastern hockey team, family and alumni are honored to be a part of the Frozen Fenway experience,” Northeastern head coach Jim Madigan said. “This game is especially meaningful to Northeastern because the Boston Red Sox used to play at the Huntington Avenue Grounds, on land that is now part of our campus. We are pleased to take on such a formidable opponent in Boston College. This will be an experience that everyone involved will remember for the rest of their lives.”

Tickets go on sale Friday, Nov. 18, at noon on redsox.com. Husky season ticket holders and students, faculty and staff will also be eligible to purchase tickets through Northeastern. Information regarding ticket sales and registration for the pre-game reception will be released soon.

The Jan. 14 matchup will be the first outdoor game in Northeastern men’s ice hockey history, and only the second outdoor hockey game for the Northeastern athletics program. The women’s ice hockey team played New Hampshire in January 2010 as part of the original Sun Life Frozen Fenway Series, in the first-ever women’s outdoor college hockey game.

The men’s outdoor game will also serve as a sneak preview of the first round of the 60th annual Beanpot Tournament, when the Huskies and Eagles drop the puck at the TD Garden on Monday, Feb. 6 at 8 p.m.

In their first meeting this season, Boston College escaped with a 4-3-overtime victory on Oct. 22 at Matthews Arena. The two squads will meet next on Friday, Nov. 11 in Chestnut Hill, in preparation for the hockey rivals’ outdoor spectacle.
