“One World” community

Northeastern University kicked off a global outreach initiative called “The One World Campaign” at the annual alumni dinner and golf outing hosted by Mel, P’56, and Martha Aronson last Sunday.

The One World Campaign is an initiative to strengthen connections with alumni, parents and friends—on a national and international scale—and expand opportunities for others to be involved in shaping the global vision of the University.

“Our global alumni family, now more than 201,000 people strong, is among the University’s greatest strengths,” said Diane MacGillivray, senior vice president for university advancement. “The feedback we receive from alumni will help to inform strategic decisions about how Northeastern can create a closer-knit community of alumni, parents and friends who are actively engaged, informed and proud of their affiliation with Northeastern.”

Using real-time communication tools like Skype, Twitter and Facebook, members of Northeastern’s alumni relations team will be reaching out to alumni in all 50 states and at least 20 countries.

The global outreach campaign is also an opportunity to inform alumni about Northeastern’s expanding international presence, and the great impact students and faculty are having worldwide. One topic University officials will be discussing is the new Presidential Global Scholars program, an initiative to support outstanding students seeking international co-op opportunities, with the goal of doubling the number of students who take advantage of these opportunities.

“We want to get alumni excited about all the innovative educational and research programs taking place at Northeastern,” said Jack Moynihan, vice president for alumni relations and The Northeastern Fund. “Equally important, this campaign is an opportunity for us to encourage more alumni to partner with us in building an even stronger Northeastern.”

Today, alumni all over the world have more opportunities to be involved with their alma mater than ever before. For example, in addition to 22 domestic alumni chapters, Northeastern recently launched five international chapters—in France, Greece and Istanbul and Ankara, Turkey, as well as a Pan-Arab chapter led by alumni in Saudi Arabia, Lebanon and Boston. The alumni relations office is planning to launch more international chapters over the next year.
