Northeastern signs historic agreement with University of Havana

President Aoun signed the agreement—the most comprehensive academic initiative by an American institution in Cuba—last week during a visit to Cuba, where he led a delegation of Northeastern faculty and staff and members of Congress. The collaboration expands upon Northeastern’s strategic partnerships in Cuba aimed at fostering novel research partnerships and educational opportunities for students.

Lifelong learning, personalized education key to higher ed’s future

Holocaust Awareness Week to explore ‘personal confrontations with the past’

Northeastern’s commitment to Holocaust remembrance is long and deep, dating back to 1977. Since then, the university has hosted an annual weeklong series of events designed to bear witness to the Holocaust while exploring issues arising out of the extermination of 6 million Jews. Northeastern’s 2017 Holocaust Awareness Week—presented by the Holocaust Awareness Committee, the College of Social Sciences and Humanities, the Office of the Provost, and the Northeastern Humanities Center—will run from Monday, Jan. 23 to Thursday, Jan. 26.

President Aoun joins effort to protect some students from possible deportation

More than 100 college and university presidents from public and private schools across the U.S., including President Aoun, have signed a statement to government leaders urging that DACA—the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program—be upheld, continued, and expanded. “This is both a moral imperative and a national necessity,” the leaders say in the statement.
