Huskies open Hockey East Tournament with the ultimate aim of a national championship

The Northeastern women’s hockey team, ranked in the top four in the U.S., will meet Vermont in a best-of-three quarterfinal beginning Thursday at 1 p.m. at Matthews Arena. A strong Hockey East showing will position the Huskies for home-ice advantage in the NCAA Tournament.

A Beanpot sweep is just the beginning for Northeastern hockey

For the first time since 1988, Northeastern’s two hockey programs are champions of the Beanpot. Now the women’s and men’s teams are looking ahead to the next challenge—the NCAA Tournament.

The Huskies’ first Beanpot title since 2013, coupled with the men’s double-overtime victory over BU Monday, gave the Huskies their first sweep of the tournament in 32 years.

Women’s Beanpot final tied 3-3 in overtime

On the threshold of the first Northeastern sweep of the Beanpot in 32 years, the women on Tuesday instead met the fate of the men, who lost a lead with a second left before beating BU 5-4 in double overtime Monday.

Huskies look to complete a Beanpot sweep
