Northeastern researchers have developed a new programming language that can decipher images relayed by drones, untangling, for instance, if an image is of a terrorist planting a bomb or simply a farmer planting root vegetables for his livelihood.
The $20.4 million cooperative agreement provides a unique mechanism for Northeastern to obtain expedited funding for research in designing and developing advanced engineered materials with security applications, and expands on the university’s leadership in security and resilience research.
In a letter to Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel on Sunday, Aoun wrote that active duty military, Reserve, and National Guard members shouldn’t be prevented from accessing higher education benefits due to the government shutdown. Northeastern will provide direct financial assistance to prevent a disruption in their education.
