Northeastern University is expanding the curriculum at its Charlotte campus by adding a doctorate in education.

The program — Northeastern’s third doctoral degree here — recently was approved by the UNC Board of Governors. Boston-based Northeastern is the only university based outside North Carolina to win approval to offer doctoral degrees, says Cheryl Richards, chief executive and regional dean of Northeastern University-Charlotte. “We’re tailoring this program specifically for some of the needs in North Carolina,” she says.

The degree program will have three areas of concentration: curriculum, teaching, learning and leadership; organizational leadership studies; and higher education administration.
