  • Uber hires privacy expert to review data practices

    USA Today - 11/20/2014

Privacy concerns are just the latest in a string of missteps by the ride-sharing service. Earlier this week, Kalanick condemned remarks from an executive who suggested hiring a team to dig up dirt on journalists critical of the company.

However, it’s unlikely to affect Uber’s business, says Bruce Clark, associate professor of marketing at Northeastern University’s D’Amore-McKim School of Business.

“Loyal Uber fans won’t care,” says Clark. “If a customer really values a product or service, it’s terribly tempting to turn a blind eye to a company’s flaws. Apple’s labor issues in Asia did not stop the sale of iPhones; Amazon’s labor issues in the U.S. haven’t stopped loyal Amazon customers from buying.”
